I just went through the teaching on purpose and passion that marriedandyoung.com is hosting, and let me say I”m feeling inspired. They spoke about S.H.A.P.E.
S – Spiritual Gifts
The spiritual gifts are listed here: http://giftstest.com/allgifts. If you are unsure which ones you have, look at the list and look at your past. Where in your life can you say ‘yes, I’ve done that before’
H – Heart (Passion)
What are the things you are passionate about? What make you feel energized whenever you think about it? When you think about your impact on the world, what’s the first thing that comes to mind?
A – Abilities
These are different from spiritual gifts, but they work hand in hand. What are you good at? Can you cook? Can you draw? Are you good with money? Are you a public speaker? A fast learner? What are the things you do well?
P – Personality
Oooh!! I like this one. Are you an introvert? Extrovert? Feeler vs thinker? Reader vs experiencer? Straightforward or beat around the bush? Or somewhere in between?
E – Experiences
EXPERIENCES HAVE TO BE SHARED. They have to be shared. What painful or eye opening experiences have you had that makes you feel that ‘I need to help others with this’ or makes you feel like ’this really changed my life’?
Put them all together and carve out your purpose. Before you die, based on your S.H.A.P.E., what is the one BIG thing that you want to do? Describe it in 1 sentence.
I truly believe, with my whole heart, that every human being has a purpose in life. I believe that 1 person can have many purposes, but they have a large overarching theme/purpose that is composed of many smaller purposes.
Just like any organization, we, as individuals, should also have our own specific vision, mission, and goals. Once we make that clear, everything else will fall into place.
In my next post I will share my own SHAPE with you. Thanks for reading.
